Final Practicum (Government of saint lucia, Department of Human Services)

May 2015 - July 2015

 

  • Designed, developed, and evaluated a five-week social justice art program targeting at-risk youth in Saint Lucia

  • Facilitated meetings among service providers in order to identify and understand current exploitation trends  

  • Trained the trainers in the social justice art curriculum, which has resulted in the continuation of the program by three service providers: Probations & Parole Services, Turning Point (drug rehabilitiation centre), and the Boys Training Centre

  • Transitioned four youth out of the foster care system

  • Completed home visits, interviewed family members, identified safe and secure alternative care placements, provided job and life skills training, networked with potential employers for youth in care, and offered one-to-one support for youth in the foster care system

 

Foundational Practicum (Calgary Centre For Global Community)

  • Fostered relationships with new donors and organized the silent auction for the 2014 Calgary Peace Prize Dinner

  • Created all of the promotional materials for the 2014 Calgary Peace Prize Dinner

  • In charge of student out-reach and faculty support for the 2014 Calgary Peace Prize Dinner

  • Assisted in facilitating the Solutionaires program – a capacity building program for neighbourhood leaders

 

 

Workshop Facilitator (children of the street society)

August 2012 - July 2013

 

  • Received one-month in training about the issue of human trafficking and sexual exploitation

  • Met with community members, including the RCMP, Ministry of Justice, Vancouver Police Department, representatives of LGBTQ and First Nations, and former sex trade workers to discuss current exploitation trends

  • Traveled throughout BC to provide workshops to students, teachers, and community members

  • Appropriately handled disclosures from students and staff

  • Facilitated the Youth Art Engagement Project, a nine-week social justice art program that targeted at risk youth

  • Trained hospital staff and teachers to recognize the warning signs of recruitment for sexual exploitation

  • Presented in youth detention centers, alternate schools, public schools, private schools, on reserves, and at conferences

  • Constructed and revised Individual Education Plans

  • Collected clinical data to determine the specific needs of each child

  • Prepared annual, quarterly, and weekly reports on the students’ educational progress to discuss with parents and staff

  • Attended monthly meetings as the educational representative of a student’s professional team

  • Maintained ongoing communication with parents, social workers, case managers, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, doctors, counselors, behavioural therapist and residential workers
